Taken from Boat Cove in Dawlish, I wanted to create a composition that incorporated the new sea wall and the lovely architecture of the houses that line the sea front. When I went to sketch the scene is situ I was taken by the wild flowers on the right and the ruggedness of the winches to the left. I knew it would be fun to create the patina on these amongst the colourful boats and the newness of the wall. A steam train - the Flying Scotsman sits in the train station about to steam along the railway line and people walk and mingle along the sea front. A happy picture, this is filled with so many details and little characters and was created with a smile thinking of summer days.
